Sunny skies help temperatures climb quickly Saturday
Temperatures started out in the 30s in some parts of central North Carolina Saturday, but thanks to sunny skies and a high pressure system over the area, the mercury warmed up quickly, WRAL meteorologist Nate Johnson said.
Posted — UpdatedMany of the frost advisories that were in effect overnight were canceled by 8:30 a.m. as temperatures climbed near 50 degrees.
By lunchtime, temperatures across much of the area had climbed into the low 60s.
"Most of the area to the north of the Triangle started in the mid-to-upper 30s earlier this morning," Johnson said. "But the clear skies that helped us cool off last night will help us warm up quickly Saturday. It's going to be a beautiful day."
Temperatures should top out in the mid-60s by Saturday afternoon before cooling off quickly during the evening. Like Friday night, the clear skies Saturday will help temperatures fall quickly once the sun sets, with overnight lows falling into the upper 30s and low 40s.
Sunny skies will stay put on Sunday as high temperatures climb into the mid-70s after a cool start.
"Easter sunrise services will be chilly, but we're going to recover nicely by the afternoon," Johnson said.
