Cooler temps on tap for rest of weekend

Some spotty showers are possible across the area, but skies are expected to be mostly cloudy. Overnight Sunday into Monday, the low will be in the lower 40s, and some light rain is possible.

Monday will also be cooler with highs forecast to be in the low 50s, but temperatures are expected to climb to the mid-60s by Thursday.

The start of next weekend is expected to be in the mid- to upper 40s.

The temperatures are in stark contrast to Saturday's spring-like weather.

Highs reached the low 70s in the Triangle, and even got up into the high 50s in the mountains.

"Temperatures in the low 70s on the seventh of January, that's not a bad life," WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel said.

At Raleigh's Pullen Park, people were making the most of the unseasonable weather.

"I think it's wonderful. That's North Carolina," said Janechka Nunn.

Eleven-year-old Cameron Burdett laced up his cleats and headed to the park for soccer practice. He plays for an indoor team, but the nice weather brought the practice outside.

"I thought it might snow later, but I guess this is better than snow because we get to be outside playing soccer," he said.

"We had snow for Christmas (last year)," Nunn said. "What a difference a year makes."
