Steady showers moved into the Triangle Wednesday afternoon, with heavier storms in the evening.

In Carthage, strong winds sent a large tree crashing through a mobile home on Wednesday afternoon, the Moore County's Sheriff's Office said. Megan Lunas was outside checking on her cat when the tree grazed her face. She was treated at a nearby hospital.

"I had no idea how close she came to dying. I don't think she knows," her boyfriend, Benny Sineath, said.

By the time the rain clears around midnight, up to 1½ inches could have fallen in the Triangle and areas to its north. Places farther to the south, including Fayetteville, will likely see closer to a half-inch of rain.

Cool, wintry temperatures will settle in on Thursday, with highs around 50 on Thursday. It should stay in the 50s through Saturday, before dropping into the mid-40s on Sunday.

Overnight lows will hit around the freezing mark Thursday and Friday and then drop into the 20s for the weekend.
