Mild temperatures return to start week

After low temperatures dipped into the upper 20s Friday, another warm-up began Sunday and will continue for the first half of the week, WRAL Meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said.

“This November you’ve really had to pay attention and watch,” Gardner said. “Our temperatures should climb back into the low 70s today, which is quite warm for this time of year. We’re running about 10 degrees above normal.”

After a cloudy start that could even include stray sprinkles in some areas, skies should become partly to mostly cloudy Monday with highs reaching into the mid 70s in some areas.

“We had some clouds roll in overnight, we may see some sprinkles but we won’t see any substantial rain,” Gardner said. “Be prepared for it to be cloudy today.”

Lows will fall into the mid 50s Monday as a backdoor cold front slips southward from Virginia. The front could produce sprinkles or light showers in some areas, especially to the north of the Triangle.

The front will also cool high temperatures Tuesday and Wednesday. Highs on both days should be in the upper 60s to near 70.

A cold front from the west will make its way to the region Tuesday night, bringing with it a chance for showers and even thunderstorms.

“Late Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning we’ll see some thunderstorms,” Gardner said. “There could actually be some severe weather in spots.”

Once the front passes, skies will clear quickly Wednesday evening.

The front will also drop temperatures, with highs Thanksgiving Day hovering around 60. Skies should be clear for travel on Thursday and shopping on Friday.

Lows will fall back into the upper 30s to near 40 Thursday and Friday night.
