Grandfather Mountain

Foliage makes a smooth transition on Rough Ridge, located at milepost 302.8 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Warm weather, however, has effectively slowed down the color change. According to Dr. Howie Neufeld, Appalachian State University professor of biology and "Fall Color Guy," leaf-lookers might look forward to a longer color season than initially expected, perhaps peaking in mid-October in the Boone/Blowing Rock area.
