Scientists Robbie Berg, Michael Brennan and Jamie Rhome talked with WRAL via email to share some perspective on their jobs.

Roanoke Rapids native Jamie Rhome oversees the National Hurricane Center's Storm Surge Unit in Miami, where he produces storm surge forecasts. He has worked at the Environmental Protection Agency, the North Carolina Climate Office of North Carolina, and as a policy analyst at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. Rhome holds bachelor's and master's degrees in meteorology from North Carolina State University.

Robbie Berg is a hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center in Miami. He earned double bachelor's degrees in meteorology and marine science from North Carolina State University in 2001, graduating as valedictorian with a perfect grade point average. Berg is responsible for forecasting and tracking tropical cyclones, issuing cyclone watches and warnings and conducting education and training for emergency managers, forecasters and the public.

Michael J. Brennan is a senior hurricane specialist at the National Hurricane Center in Miami. He earned his bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees from North Carolina State University. He is on the adjunct faculty at NCSU, teaches on a wide variety of topics for other meteorologists and emergency managers, and is active in the scientific community as an editor and reviewer for several journals.
