The collection of weather information I'm referring to in the title of this post doesn't actually include much wind data at present, but I couldn't resist the pun. There is mention of "a gust of wind" that reached at least 33 mph during the 2007 Masters tournament, along with a wealth of daily and yearly temperature and precipitation statistics from the tournament that gets underway this week.
The climate data is part of a collection of sporting event-related weather observations that the Southeast Regional Climate Center (SERCC) has put together and made available on their web site. If the big golf fan in your family wondered which Masters endured the most rain, the coolest average temperatures, or the hottest day, he or she can find it here, along with infomation on who won the tournament, and with what score. The listing goes all the way back to 1934, so you'll find winners like Horton Smith, Byron Nelson and Craig Wood, as well as the more recent first-place finishers like Mike Weir, Zach Johnson and that other fellow with "Wood" as part of his last name.
