MIKE MOSS SAYS:    Tina,    when you see the word "Invest" in a tropical related bulletin, it usually refers to a suspicious tropical wave or collection of showers and thunderstorms that has some potential to become a tropical depression, tropical storm or hurricane. These storms will then be "investigated" (hence INVEST) by way of satellite and computer model monitoring at the National Hurricane Center, and sometimes by reconnaissance flights carried out by the Air Force Reserve or NOAA. The systems are given numbers 90-99 followed by L (Atlantic basin), E (eastern Pacific), W9 western Pacific) and so on. The one you mentioned was probably "Invest 98L," which eventually became (briefly) Tropical Storm Chantal.
