Once we get to July you expect the oppressive heat/humidity combination that Central and Eastern North Carolina is famous for. Normal high this time of year is near 90 with the normal low near 70. The reason it doesn’t get much cooler than 70 at night is that the dewpoints are usually running in the upper 60s to low 70s. That’s the humidity part of that combination. Then along comes yesterday’s cold front. Then you head out the door this morning to get the paper and WOW! Turn off the air, open the windows and enjoy, because you know it will not last long. Dewpoints are running around 60, and should hold in the low to mid 60s through the weekend as temperatures rise. By Monday we will start to feel the muggies creeping back into the weather and those of us forecasting will be, once again, be looking for different ways to says “hazy, hot & humid”.
