Warrenton's ex-police chief indicted on embezzlement charges

A Warren County grand jury returned nine indictments of embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretense this week against the former police chief of Warrenton.

WARRENTON, N.C. — A Warren County grand jury returned nine indictments of embezzlement and obtaining property by false pretense this week against the former police chief of Warrenton.

John Younts was fired in October after an audit of financial documents revealed "inconsistencies in police department purchases."

He had been Warrenton's police chief since 2007.
