ADVANCE, N.C. — The North Carolina Department of Insurance filed fraud charges against a Davie County woman last week after she tried to collect on jewelry that she had pawned.

Heidi Michelle Flaherty, 37, of 145 Idlewild Road in Advance, surrendered at the Granville County Sheriff's Office and was released on bond.

According to the warrant for her arrest, Flaherty sold two diamond rings at a Raleigh pawn shop, then filed a fraudulent insurance claim stating that she lost them.

State Farm Fire and Casualty Insurance Company paid her $3861.55 claim, the warrant said.

Flaherty was charged with one count each of insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense.
