Warrant: Slain Raleigh cab driver was found near crashed taxi

Amigo Taxi driver Jose Nicolas Dominguez of Raleigh was found shot to death in front of a building at 2010 Hodge Creek Drive shortly after 1 a.m. on February 8. A search warrant said that his taxi was found crashed into a light pole with the engine still running.

Multiple shell casings were found inside Dominguez’s taxi and next to his body, the search warrant said.

The search warrant stated that there were multiple bloody shoe impressions in the parking lot where Dominguez’s body was located. These footprints led to an area where witnesses described seeing a man enter the passenger side of a getaway vehicle.

Witnesses at the scene indicated that Dominguez was shot by a passenger in his cab and suggested that robbery was a motive for the shooting, according to the search warrant.

Major Earl Edwards Jr., of 11 Middle Street in Louisburg, was charged with murder in the case. A 2015 Nissan Sentra found at Edwards’ residence was identified as the getaway vehicle and was seized by authorities, who found evidence of blood on the passenger side of the car.

On Feb. 9, clothing that appeared to be stained with blood was located near Edwards’ residence, the search warrant states.

During a search of Edwards’ apartment, authorities also located two phones that belonged to associates of Edwards and a second unnamed suspect. A phone belonging to one of the suspects that was located in the Nissan Sentra was also seized. A second search warrant states that call records indicated that the Edwards and the second suspect were in communication before and after the shooting. Authorities believed the phones may contain evidence of details of the crime
