Warrant: Grandmom smoked pot, drove around with child

A Raleigh woman was under the influence of marijuana, alcohol and prescription medicine when she drove with her 4-year-old step-grandson along the street where she lives Friday, according to arrest warrants.

RALEIGH, N.C. — A Raleigh woman was under the influence of marijuana, alcohol and prescription medicine when she drove with her 4-year-old step-grandson along the street where she lives Friday, according to arrest warrants.

Barbara Jean Hunter, 53, of 5217 Monk Drive, had consumed four times the recommended dose of a prescription medication, the warrants state. Investigators said she admitted to smoking marijuana before driving. An open container of alcohol was also found in her vehicle, according to the warrants.

Hunter was charged with misdemeanor child abuse, possession of marijuana, having an open container of alcohol in a vehicle and driving with a revoked license.

Hunter has been freed on bond. Her first court date was set for July 8.
