Patchy rain expected Wednesday; high pressure brings warm weekend
A band of precipitation over the western Piedmont is weakening as it moves east on Wednesday morning, but it could hold together long enough to bring light rain to the Triangle.
Posted — UpdatedAs the clouds roll in, there will be about a 50 percent chance of light rain, though the system should fizzle out by Wednesday afternoon.
"We'll have some of this moving through to give us some hit-and-miss sprinkles and patches of light rain as we head through the morning hours," said WRAL meteorologist Mike Moss.
A high pressure system coming from the west in the wake of the light storm could bring nicer weather late on Thursday and into Friday, Moss said. A cold front moving through on Wednesday, though, will keep the temperatures in much of eastern North Carolina around the 40s after topping out in the 60s on Tuesday.
A high around 48 degrees on Wednesday will be followed by temperatures in the lower 30s overnight as the chance of rain increases again.
As the week ends, though, temperatures will begin to climb, and the sun won't have to compete with any clouds. Moss said temperatures will break into the 60s on Saturday and Sunday and could climb as high as 69 degrees by Tuesday next week.
"Quite a difference from what we just finished with the past weekend and our wintry weather," Moss said.
