Warm, muggy air arrives; scattered storms possible Tuesday evening
Warm, muggy air settled into central and eastern North Carolina early Tuesday, and a disturbance moving through the state later in the day could generate showers and thunderstorms during the evening.

Rain showers that moved through the Triangle overnight continued to push eastward, but the bulk of the area will see mainly cloudy skies throughout the day. High temperatures will climb into the low 70s Tuesday afternoon.
"We'll be dry for the bulk of the day, but our rain chances will go up during the late afternoon and evening," WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. "We could see thunderstorms in some spots, which isn't something we've seen much of this spring."
Rain and clouds will clear out overnight and early Wednesday, and partly cloudy conditions during the first half of the day will allow highs to climb into the low 80s for the middle of the work week.
Wednesday afternoon, however, another round of showers and thunderstorms is possible.
The pattern will remain consistent on Thursday and Friday, Gardner said.
"Our best chance for stronger storms may come on Friday, but we should see improvement for the weekend as more sunshine is in the forecast," she said.
Highs will be in the upper 70s and low 80s on Thursday and Friday before falling into the low 70s over the weekend.
