Wandering Toddler Leads to Abuse Charge Against Parents

Posted Updated

DUNN, N.C. — A couple faces a child-abuse charge because their 20-month-old child was found wandering alone along a busy road.

Dunn police charged Bradley Morris Hines, 34, and Donna Sue Hines, 41, of Eleanor Drive, with non-assaultive child abuse, officers said.

The incident occurred the weekend of Nov. 10 on Dunn-Erwin Road, police said. Two men saw the child, picked it up and took it to a nearby service station and called police, Det. Sgt. David Whittenton said.

The Hineses were asleep at home when police called them, Whittenton said.

The couple is due in Dunn District Court on Dec. 5 for a hearing.
