CARY, N.C. — WakeMed next year will take over the sponsorship of a soccer complex in Cary that has been home to area professional teams.

Cary software developer SAS Institute has had the naming rights to SAS Soccer Park for more than five years. Cary’s three-year sponsorship agreement with WakeMed, which begins in January, will generate $300,000 a year for the town.

The complex off N.C. Highway 54 is home to the Raleigh RailHawks of the United Soccer League and will also be home to a new women's professional team. It also has hosted Atlantic Coast Conference and NCAA soccer tournaments, and area youth and adult teams also frequently use its fields.

“As an organization committed to the health and well being of our community, sponsorship of this park is an excellent opportunity for us to reinforce the message of how physical activity contributes to a healthy lifestyle,” Dr. Bill Atkinson, WakeMed president and chief executive, said in a statement.
