Some basic information from Wake's website: If you are currently happy with your children's schools, they can stay where they are. The new choice plan primarily applies to rising kindergartners, new Wake County residents and people who want to change their current school.

Current students who will be moving from grade 5 to 6 or grade 8 to 9 in the 2012-13 school year will be pre-assigned to their feeder pattern middle or high school based on where they are currently enrolled.
