CARY, N.C. — Those interested in sharing their thoughts on what the Wake County Public School System’s new five-year strategic plan should look like have until the end of the week to do so.
More than 7,000 people have taken an online survey the district will use to help craft the strategic plan, said Marvin Connelly, the district’s chief of staff and strategic planning, during Tuesday’s school board work session.

Survey questions were derived from stakeholder focus groups that provided input on what they think the state’s largest school system should focus on:

- Student-focused education
- Great teachers
- Rigorous curriculum
- Equity in opportunity
- Preparedness beyond high school
- Adequate funding

- Safe environment

"We have taken the high quality of our Wake County public schools for granted, and we are now at a crossroads," said Christine Kushner, chairwoman of the Wake County Board of Education, during a May strategic plan kick-off meeting.

The final plan, which will be presented to district staff and board members on July 21, will be scaled down to 4-5 priorities, Connelly said.
