CARY, N.C. — The Wake County Public School System on Monday announced changes to its spring calendar to make up for four days of missed classes last week because of winter weather.
The adjustments to the spring calendar are as follows:
- Traditional-calendar schools: One make-up day will be taken by extending early-release days scheduled for March 6 and April 17 to full school days.
Year-round, Tracks 1 and 3: One make-up day will be taken by extending early-release days scheduled for March 6 and April 17 to full school days. The year-round make-up day originally scheduled for Feb. 28 has been canceled.
Year-round, Track 4: An early-release day scheduled for March 6 will be extended to a full day.
Year-round, Track 2: Track 2 was not in session during the weather closures. However, Track 2 will be in session on April 17 and will now be in school for a full day. Due to transportation constraints, it is not possible to run some schools and some tracks on an early-release schedule, while other schools are on a full-day schedule.
Modified-calendar schools: One make-up day will be taken by extending early-release days scheduled for March 6 and April 17 to full school days.
Wake Early College of Health and Sciences , Vernon Malone College & Career Academy and Wake STEM: One make-up day will be taken by extending early-release days scheduled for March 6 and April 17 to full school days.
Wake Young Men's Leadership Academy and Wake Young Women's Leadership Academy: One make-up day will be taken by extending early-release days scheduled for March 6 and April 17 to full school days. The school system was able to avoid additional make-up days by using the hours that students already are scheduled to attend above the state's required minimum of 1025 hours.
The changes restore a five-day spring break for students on the traditional calendar by making March 23 a teacher workday.
Because of state laws, spring break could be affected if further cancellations are required, the school system said.
Early forecasts show a weather system moving through the state later this week that could bring 3 to 6 inches of snow to the Triangle Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
