WAKE FOREST, N.C. — Logan Decosta, who was struck by a passing vehicle on Tuesday while riding a bicycle on Forestville Road at Autumn Forest Trail, died Thursday, family members said.

A group of children were playing in a yard when Decosta either stumbled or fell while riding towards the road, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said. Decosta was getting back up when he was struck by a passing vehicle.

Denise Huffman, the driver of the car, told investigators that she didn't see the boy.

"She said it was black, pitch black dark and she did not see the boy come out in front of her," Trooper Ryan Absher said.

No charges have been filed, but troopers are still investigating the incident.

Decosta was a student at Rolesville Elementary School.

"Logan was a bright and happy child," said Frances Schoenling, who was a teaching assistant at Fox Road Elementary when Decosta was in kindergarten. "A wonderful little boy doing all the things little boys do. He was the kind of child you wanted to be around. He worked hard and was always glad to please others. I was blessed to know him."

Decosta's family has created a GoFundMe page to help with expenses.
