RALEIGH, N.C. — A 7-year-old boy remained in critical condition Monday, a day after he was struck in the neck by an arrow.

Wake County Sheriff's Office deputies said Daniel Velazquez's 11-year-old brother shot the arrow that hit him outside their home at 1110 Swift Creek Lane at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday.

Daniel, a second-grader at Ballentine Elementary School in Fuquay-Varina, was in the pediatric intensive care unit at WakeMed in Raleigh.

In a frantic call to 911, someone at his home begged for paramedics to get there as soon as possible.

"His body is swelling up," the caller told a 911 dispatcher. "He's swelling up right now, really bad."

Daniel's mother told WRAL News by text message that the family needs as many prayers as possible for the two boys.

Deputies say the case remains under investigation.
