Virginia man charged in Gaston slaying

A Virginia man was charged Monday in the stabbing death of a Northampton County high school student, authorities said Tuesday.

GASTON, N.C. — A Virginia man was charged Monday in the stabbing death of a Northampton County high school student, authorities said Tuesday.

Triston Jaquan Perry, 17, of N.C. Highway 48, was stabbed several times early Monday, and deputies responding to a reported shooting found his body on a dirt path off Clover Lane, Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent said . Perry was a student at Northampton County High School West.

Investigators charged an acquaintance of Perry, Rashon Rakeem Squire, 18, of Midlothian, Va., with first-degree murder. He was being held in the Northampton County Jail without bond, pending an initial court appearance on Thursday morning.

Vincent said investigators haven't determined the motive for the slaying.
