View Bar, Big Mike's are a winning combo

RALEIGH, N.C. — Big Mike's BBQ food truck is now parked at View Bar on Glenwood South. Out & About was invited to take a look at the new setup last night, and it was great! At the event, BBQ dishes were paired with beer from Triangle Brewing Company.

We started with simple but delicious chopped chicken and pork barbecue, paired with a Habanero Pale Ale. The BBQ was tender and moist, even without extra sauce. Sauces available ranged Eastern NC vinegar to "stupid hot." I really enjoyed this hot combination, because the habanero in the beer wasn't too overpowering or spicy.

One of my favorites dishes of the night was the chicken wings. (Which is surprising, because I usually don't eat them!) They are dry rubbed, smoked and lightly fried to perfection to get them nice and crispy. The meat was juicy and full of flavor. 

Another standout dish was the Fatty Fries, topped with jalapenos, chunks of brisket and a pimiento-bleu cheese mixture. The cheese was creamy and tangy, and the fries were thick enough to really get a good scoop. They would be perfect to share with friends at the bar. 

Keep on sharing with the Redneck Nachos: Fritos topped with pork, baked beans, bleu cheese slaw and sauce. Many people around the table said this was one of their favorites. It's certainly a fun dish! We paired this with the tart, sour Lambic. 

I enjoyed Triangle Brewing's Belgian Abbey with these smoky dishes. It's slightly sweet and malty with a clean finish. I would definitely look for it on tap again to drink with my barbecue.
