Vend Raleigh, the great local group designed to support, help and connect local mompreneurs, is gearing up for its annual Illuminate conference.

The event takes place from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Oct. 2, at the Junior League of Raleigh building. With a keynote speaker and various sessions, it aims to help moms who own their own business connect, collaborate and create, the website says. It also just sounds like a lot of fun!

I know so many moms who have gotten so much out of this great group, which also provides a directory of local mom-owned business. The group was launched by Cary Heise, an Apex mom of two, who has grown two small businesses of her own - N.C. Social Butterflies and Stay at Home Rock Star - and is excellent at getting people together.

The primary focus for this year's conference is to cultivate personal development and inspiration. It's designed for mompreneurs at any level - whether they are just starting the process, have a business already or want to expand. The keynote speaker will be Lara Casey, a Chapel Hill mom and editor-in-chief of Southern Weddings, which she created.

Once the conference expenses are covered, all remaining proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House of Chapel Hill.

Registration is open now. The website has more information.
