DURHAM, N.C. — Speed was cited as the cause of an Interstate 40 accident in which a vehicle overturned late Thursday afternoon near Farrington Road in Durham County, closing the eastbound side of the highway for a time.

Witnesses told authorities that they believed Jae Rho was driving too fast when he attempted to switch lanes and lost control. His car flipped and slammed into a tree. It happened about 5:45 p.m.

Rho was trapped in the car until rescue workers extricated him.

All lanes were reopened once the accident scene was cleared.

Rho's condition was unknown Friday morning. State troopers had not filed any charges in connection with the incident.
