BUNNLEVEL, N.C. — A vehicle struck and killed an 80-year-old woman walking across the road in front of her Bunnlevel home Saturday afternoon.

State troopers said Edna Rathi looked right and then stepped into Anderson Creek School Road, between Blalock and Lemuel Black roads. A 2008 Toyota sedan, driven by Charles Githens, of Bunn Level, struck her from her left side.

Rathi was transported to a local hospital, where she died.

It appeared that Rathi was walking to her mailbox when she was hit, troopers said.

Troopers planned to discuss whether charges should be filed with the district attorney's office Monday.
