Vass man charged in machete attack

A Vass man was charged with assault after authorities said he attacked another man with a machete.

VASS, N.C. — A Vass man was charged with assault after authorities said he attacked another man with a machete Sunday.

Moore County sheriff’s deputies said they responded to an 8:40 p.m. emergency call at a home in the 100 block of Cummings Place in Vass and found Merlen Aguilar Perez, 45, injured from a machete.

Perez was taken to the Moore Regional Hospital Emergency room and treated for cuts to his arms and face. He is expected to recover, deputies said.

Justin Rodriguez Rios, 45, of the 100 block of Cummings Place, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was held at the Moore County Detention Center under a $500,000 secured bond and is scheduled for a July 15 court date.
