DURHAM, N.C. — Lanes reopened on US-70 Eastbound at Cheek Road Monday morning after a pedestrian was struck and killed.

According to officials, around 4:45 a.m., a eastbound tractor trailer struck 50-year-old Jose Santos Martinez, 50, on US-70 at Interstate-85 in Durham County near mile marker 286.

Martinez died at the scene.

All four lanes on US-70 E at Cheek Road were closed for several hours while authorities investigated the accident. By 8 a.m., all lanes had reopened for motorists.

According to investigators, speed does not appear to have been a factor. No charges have been filed against the truck driver at this time.
