Uncle of victim's children charged in Durham double fatal shooting

Timothy Lonell Bell, 25, of Durham, was charged early Tuesday with two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of Farrahquan Idre Glenn, 27, and Faraah Christine Anderson, 29, who lived in the complex at 1 Sima Ave.

Anderson was the mother of two girls and two boys, all under 10 years old, neighbors said. Bell is their uncle.

"They were happy. She was happy. They were a happy little family. When you saw one, you saw the mom and her little ones right behind her," said Rev. Pebbles Lucas, who was Anderson's friend and works at the nearby First Chronicles Community Church.

The children were upstairs asleep during the shooting, but weren't aware of what happened.

Police haven't commented on a motive, but court records show that Anderson had taken out a restraining order against Lance Bell, the suspect's brother and father of her children.

The children's grandmother was on her way from New Jersey Tuesday afternoon to tell them about their mother's death, neighbors said.

"A whole family has been torn apart viciously. Four children are motherless today for whatever reason," Lucas said. "I can't imagine the grief the children are about to experience."

Friends said Anderson was taking classes in culinary arts so she could get a good job and make a better life. She was scheduled to take her GED test on Wednesday.

"She had just finished school and started working. She was a young lady who was restarting her life for her children," her friend Theresa Wilson said. "She was like a flower getting ready to bloom."

Glenn's relatives also came to the scene of the shooting Tuesday but were too distraught to talk. 

Police haven't commented on a motive or what led to the shooting but said the deaths were not random.

Residents called 911 around 11 p.m. Monday to report a fight in an apartment and someone getting shot. Screams fill the background of the 911 call recordings, and a person is heard yelling, "Help!"

"Somebody's being killed or something," one 911 caller says.

"Please come out here real quick, because somebody got shot," a second caller says.

Lt. Patrice Vickers credited tips from area residents for helping police make a quick arrest. Investigators spent the night combing the scene for evidence and interviewing neighbors.
