UNC-TV lines up fun, free activities at N.C. State Fair

UNC-TV is back at the N.C. State fair with lots of fun and free activities in its pavilion next to Dorton Arena and the fair's Gate 2.

UNC-TV is back at the N.C. State fair with lots of fun and free activities in its pavilion next to Dorton Arena and the fair's Gate 2.

The fair opens Thursday and runs through Oct. 22. The UNC-TV/Rootle pavilion will be open throughout the fair with activities for kids and some meet-and-greets. UNC-TV also has lined up some special events this week. (Rootle is UNC-TV's kids channel).

Here's what's planned:

10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 14: Block Party LIVE

Character meet-and-greets, along with hands-on activities from Raleigh Rocks, Girls Scouts and Home Depot, and resources from Prevent Child Abuse N.C. and UNC TEACCH.

Here's the schedule:

9:45 a.m. to 10 a.m.: KIPP Pride High School Band and Read-a-roo

10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.: Arthur and D.W. visit

10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m.: Berenstain Bears: Mama & Papa Bear visit

11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.: Clifford the Big Red Dog

11:30 a.m. to noon: Performance by Chloe-Olivia

Noon to 12:15 p.m.: KIPP Pride High School Band and Read-a-roo

12:15 p.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Storytime with UNC TEACCH

12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.: Arthur and D.W.

1 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.: Berenstain Bears: Mama and Papa Bear

1:30 p.m. to 2 p.m.: Clifford the Big Red Dog

6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13: PBS Throwback event
The UNC-TV tent also will host a special PBS throwback event from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13. Stop by the tent for a special character meet-and-greet and photo-op with Arthur, D.W. and other favorite PBS Kids characters. This one is geared toward tweens, teens and adults, who remember Bob Ross, Zaboomafu and other old-school PBS faves.
