RALEIGH, N.C. — WRAL Chief Meteorologist Greg Fishel led a forum Thursday of experts discussing the scientific and political factors in a sustainable future for the environment.
"Forging a Sustainable Future," the latest in a series of discussions featuring Fishel, takes place at the WRAL 3D Theater inside the
North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Admission is free, and doors to the theater open at 6:30 p.m.
Fishel and his fellow panelists – Ramu Damodaran, chief of the United Nations Academic Compact; Lori Foster, professor of Psychology at North Carolina State University and fellow with the White House Social and Behavioral Science Team; and Emlyn Koster, director of the museum – discussed the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals designed to end poverty, promote prosperity and well-being for all and protect the planet.
In particular, the panel focused on advances in science and education that can help educate, motivate and empower citizens to seek their own solutions.
The event was followed by coffee and dessert, with the opportunity to meet the panelists.

The speakers
Ramu Damodaran’s responsibilities in the UN’s Outreach Division have focused on outreach to, and partnerships with, the non-governmental, academic and private sector constituencies, as well as to the general public. His most recent initiative is the United Nations Academic Impact.
Lori Foster’s research is at the intersection of work, psychology, technology and global development. At the White House, she serves on a new Social and Behavioral Sciences Team to help federal agencies increase the efficiency and efficacy of their programs and policies.
Emlyn Koster’s broader roles include committees of the Association of Science-Technology Centers and International Council of Museums. He recently participated in a workshop to explore how museums can best approach global challenges.
