FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A fight among basketball players Sunday evening sparked gunfire in a Fayetteville park crowded with as many as 100 people, police said.

At least two men on the basketball court in Seabrook Park, at 716 Langdon St., were wounded by the gunfire around 7:30 p.m.

Investigators said a 28-year-old man was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was listed in critical but stable condition as of 10 p.m. His name was not released.

A second person who suffered minor injuries in the shooting drove himself to Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital. Investigators said they have gotten reports that a third person was wounded, but they have not been able to verify those tips.

Police said they have identified a suspect but declined to release more details.
