ABERDEEN, N.C. — The state Highway Patrol says two people were killed in a four-vehicle wreck Saturday on North Carolina Highway 211 in Aberdeen.

A vehicle was trying to pass another vehicle at about 7 p.m. when it sideswiped another vehicle in the opposite lane of N.C. Highway 211, troopers said. Those two vehicles lost control and collided head-on with two other vehicles.

Candra Stewart, 40, of Pinehurst, and John McMillan, 41, of Red Springs, were killed, troopers said. A helicopter airlifted Suzanne McMillan, 59, of Red Springs, to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Cheryl Anne Heeter and Chan Tran, of Raleigh, and Darren Randall and his wife, of Maryland, were transported by ambulance to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst with non-life-threatening injuries.

Highway 211 was shutdown in both directions while the wreckage was cleared.
