BUIES CREEK, N.C. — The driver of a pickup truck that crossed left of center near Campbell University Monday afternoon and struck a car, killing two people, will be charged once he is released from the hospital, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Paul Thurman Ennis, 43, of Dunn, was traveling south on U.S. Highway 421 in Buies Creek when he crossed the center line and hit a northbound car head-on, troopers said.

The driver of that car, Joanna Christina Council, 26, of Lillington, died at the scene. Her passenger, Christian Lee Womack, 38, of Raleigh, died at a local hospital.

Ennis was being treated Tuesday at WakeMed in Raleigh, where he was listed in fair condition. His passenger, Jonathan Dearl Mason, 30, of Dunn, was treated at Central Harnett Hospital and released.

Ennis, a carpenter, was hauling his tools in a trailer hitched to the truck, troopers said.

Everyone involved in the wreck was wearing a seat belt, troopers said.
