RAEFORD, N.C. — Two Fayetteville men died early Thursday when their speeding car overturned on a rural Hoke County road, authorities said.

The North Carolina State Highway Patrol estimated that Robert Lee Ferguson, 32, of 7512 Glen Raven Drive, was driving at 80 mph on Phillipi Church Road at about 2:45 a.m. when he lost control of his 2006 Mercedes-Benz.

The car ran off the right side of the road, struck a tree, flipped and came to rest on the opposite lane, authorities said.

Ferguson and his passenger, Bruno Louis Kisala Jr., 32, of 6519 Senator Drive, were killed.

The posted speed on that section of Phillipi Church Road, a two-lane road near Pittman Grove Road, is 55 mph.

Authorities said they don't yet know if alcohol was a factor in the crash.
