HARRELLS, N.C. — Two people have been charged in connection with the death of a Sampson County man, authorities said Friday.

Deputies responded to 347 Bill Town Road at about 2:30 a.m. Thursday after a 911 caller reported a home invasion. They found the body of Gary Lee West Jr. in the yard, authorities said.

No cause of death was released, but authorities said West had "obvious signs of trauma to the upper body region."

The 911 caller provided a description of a vehicle leaving the area, and another deputy was able to locate a similar vehicle and detain the two people inside, authorities said.

Terrill Dewight Wells was charged with murder, two counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of cocaine and possession of heroin. He was being held without bond Friday in the Sampson County jail.

Jennifer Lynn Norris was charged with accessory after the fact of murder and possession of heroin. She was being held under a $775,000 bond.

The case remains under investigation.
