Tuesday Wrap: Budget badminton
The House swatted its slimmed-down budget proposal back at the Senate on Tuesday, less than 24 hours after the Senate stiffed-armed the proposal, sending it back to the House without any debate.
Posted — UpdatedHouse and Senate Democrats blasted the stalemate, saying it's making life difficulty for school districts to set their budgets and hire teachers. Democratic leaders called for public budget negotiations.
Senate leaders say they plan to roll out a proposal Wednesday morning.
In non-budget news, the House rolled out a proposed substitute to the Senate's plan to clean up coal ash sites statewide. The measure would create a loophole to relax the hard deadlines the Senate set for Duke Energy to close and clean the ash ponds. The House Environment Committee is expected to debate the bill on Wednesday.
