RALEIGH, N.C. — More people attended the 2007 North Carolina State Fair on Tuesday than ever before on the fifth day of the annual event, officials said Wednesday.

The State Fair reported attendance of 69,829 for Tuesday, breaking a 20-year-old record. Almost 67,400 people attended the fifth day of the fair in 1987.

Fair officials also revised attendance figures for the first four days of the fair and reported attendance is up more than 18 percent from a year ago through Tuesday. Almost 386,500 people have attended the fair this year, up from about 326,100 in 2006.

Figures initially showed attendance was lagging behind the 2006 pace, but officials said they audited the advance ticket sales and determined they had underestimated this year's attendance.
