RALEIGH, N.C. — Coming soon to a television near you, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's first campaign ads in his race against Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Trump has generally eschewed paying for air time to get his message out to voters throughout his campaign, relying almost exclusively on media coverage of his almost daily rallies and pronouncements to keep him in the headlines and maintain his momentum.

NBC News reported Thursday that Trump has plunked down $4 million to air ads in North Carolina, Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania over the next 10 days, including $838,000 in North Carolina markets.

The spending is minuscule compared with the $61 million Clinton has spent on ads so far. In fact, she spent $876,540 on TV ads in a five-day period in late June and early July, leading up to an appearance with President Barack Obama at a Charlotte rally.
