Truck hits old Carthage courthouse

On Thursday afternoon, witnesses reported that a truck traveling down Monroe Street in Carthage veered off and struck the old courthouse.

CARTHAGE, N.C. — On Thursday afternoon, witnesses reported that a truck traveling down Monroe Street in Carthage veered off and struck the old courthouse.

The driver, Robbie Bowman, was pinned and had to be extracted by firefighters. He was taken by helicopter to a hospital, but the extent of his injuries was not immediately available.

County Animal Control Officer Frank Ringelberg, who happened to be nearby, rescued an injured dog from the back seat of Bowman's truck. 

The cause of the accident is unknown.
