KNIGHTDALE, N.C. — A truck driver was injured Friday morning when his tractor-trailer overturned as he rounded a ramp on eastbound Interstate 540 in Knightdale.

Officials said the accident happened just before 11 a.m. on the ramp that connects to eastbound U.S. Highway 64. Traffic was being rerouted onto westbound U.S. 64, and the ramp was expected to remain closed until about 3 p.m.

Details on how the wreck happened and the extent of the driver's injuries were not immediately released. The driver was taken to a nearby hospital.

The accident was the second involving a tractor-trailer that snarled traffic in the region Friday morning.

About 11 a.m. in Raleigh, a truck hauling a trailer home hit a bridge as the driver exited from southbound Capital Boulevard onto eastbound Interstate 440.

Transportation officials said the rig was on the ramp when the trailer hit the underside of the Capital Boulevard bridge.

The trailer was damaged, but the bridge was OK, officials said. The driver was unhurt.

One lane was blocked as crews cleared the scene.
