FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The apartment complex in Fayetteville formerly known as the Cambridge Arms caught fire Monday afternoon. It's at least the second fire reported at the complex in the past 12 months.

A single unit burned in building 39, and others may have smoke or water damage, according to witnesses.

In July, complex owners Southwood Realty changed the name of the 700-unit complex on Barcelona Drive to Barrington Place Apartment Homes and incorporated new security measures in an effort to distance it from a series violent crimes.

In addition to gated entrances, limited access, security cameras and overnight guards, the City of Fayetteville has asked that Southwood Realty  conduct random apartment checks and run more thorough background checks on potential tenants.

The apartment complex has been the site of two double shootings since Jan. 1.
