RALEIGH, N.C. — An alert State Highway Patrol trooper apprehended a man suspected of robbing a north Raleigh bank Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

A BB&T branch in the 4400 block of Creedmoor Road was held up shortly before 5 p.m., and the robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

No injuries were reported in the robbery.

A few minutes later, Master Trooper Chris Pate was patrolling about a half-mile away when he saw a man matching the description of the bank robber behind Golden Corral headquarters, on Glenwood Avenue.

Pate found currency and other evidence of the robbery on the man and took him into custody.

Raymond Griffin, 33, of 218 Banks Court in Goldsboro, has been charged with common law robbery in the case.
