Trio arrested after chase, armed robbery in Sanford

Two men and a woman accused of robbing a CVS pharmacy in Sanford were arrested Wednesday after they wrecked their car during a chase with pursuing officers.

SANFORD, N.C. — Two men and a woman accused of robbing a CVS pharmacy in Sanford were arrested Wednesday after they wrecked their car during a chase with pursuing officers.

Sanford police said they were called to the store at 1802 S. Horner Blvd. about 11 a.m. by employees who said a man entered the pharmacy, demanding money and narcotics. The man left with an undisclosed amount of prescription medicine.

While responding to the call, officers said they saw a man they believed to be a suspect get into a car on Lee Avenue. The officers tried to stop the car, but the driver fled. The driver led officers on a chase from Lee Avenue to St. Andrews Church Road, to Lemon Springs Road to Greenwood School Road, where he wrecked.

The driver, identified as James Danjohn Bowden, 20, of 573 Braxton Blvd. in Fayetteville, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, trafficking in opium, felony speeding to elude arrest and resisting a public officer.

Also arrested were:

Willie Joe Staten Cole, 24, of 6604 Cushing Drive, Fayetteville. He was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, trafficking in opium, felony speeding to elude arrest and resisting a public officer.

Jessika Renee Cardwell, 30, of 62 W. Governor Brandon St., Spring Lake. She was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and trafficking in opium.

All three were held in the Lee County jail. Bond information was unavailable.
