Editor's note: This article is about Halloween in 2012.

Triangle Town Center won't have any kind of organized trick-or-treating on Oct. 31.

The north Raleigh mall will be open for normal shopping hours, which are 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. that day. But they won't be advertising any kind of Halloween-related event on Oct. 31. In past years, participating stores have handed out candy to kids.

I suspect the reason for the change this year is because of last year's very rainy Halloween when many families escaped the weather by heading to the malls for candy. That left a lot of parents angry and a lot of kids without any candy.

You can read all about the complaints in my post last year. Common concern: Few stores were actually handing out candy and some were handing out coupons - not exactly what a kid is looking forward to on Halloween night.

The mall does have two costume stores - Spirit Halloween and Party City.

Other malls in the area are going ahead with trick-or-treating. Here's what I know about so far:

It's 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Oct. 31 at Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh and Cary Towne Center in Cary as part of a town of Cary event; 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at University Mall in Chapel Hill; and 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Crossroads Plaza in Cary.

The Streets at Southpoint and Northgate Mall have not offered organized trick-or-treating in past years and don't plan to this year.

I'll update if I hear about more. If you plan on going to a mall event, know that the candy supply is available until it runs out. It might be a good idea to get there early.

In kind of related news, as we all prepare for Halloween, the malls already are looking toward Christmas.

Santa will arrive at the mall at 7 p.m., Nov. 2. A celebration of Santa is 7 p.m., Nov. 9, with a dance party featuring Jack Frost. The big day is Nov. 16 for The Streets at Southpoint.
