Woman suffers minor injures after tree falls on Raleigh house
One person was injured Saturday after a tree crashed onto a home in Raleigh, police said.
Posted — UpdatedKathi McFadden was sitting outside her home on the corner of Whitaker Mill Road and Pine Drive around 5 p.m. when a large oak tree gave way and came crashing onto her.
"I didn't hear anything, but I could just see them coming...the branches coming," she said. "It was so surreal, they just kept coming and coming and I never heard a crash or anything."
The tree uprooted the sidewalk, sideswiped a bus stop, cracked a power line and knocked out power to nearly 40 customers in the area.
"The only place I could go was toward the house, but the door was locked and I could not get inside," McFadden said.
McFaddens' neighbor, Leslie English, was home at the time of the incident.
"It was a really loud boom. I thought a tractor trailer has over turned on Whitaker Mill," English said.
McFadden said it could have been worse.
"It hit me, I felt pressure. I kept expecting more, but it never got worse," she said.
Police said they believe the tree fell as a result of heavy rain earlier in the week.
"We're just saying thank you Lord. We're just so thankful she's ok," English said.
