FOUR OAKS, N.C. — Two adults and one child were injured in a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 95 South in Johnston County late Saturday morning.

State troopers said the wreck occurred at mile marker 84 around 11:30 a.m. when a car tried to make an illegal u-turn in the interstate. Two vehicles following were able to slow down and avoid hitting the car, but it overturned in a ditch.

Medical helicopters were called in to transport all three people in the wrecked car. Two were taken to WakeMed in Raleigh, and one, to Duke University Medical Center.

The victims, whose names were withheld, all suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The highway was initially closed around noon for the helicopters to land. Authorities kept it closed for a couple more hours while crews cleaned up debris.

Viewers reported a 10-mile-long back up on I-95 North at one point.

Both sides of the interstate have been reopened.
