DURHAM, N.C. — A southbound lane of Interstate 85 in Durham reopened about 2 p.m. Tuesday after crews cleared a load of lumber that had spilled from an overturned tractor-trailer.

The accident occurred at about 4:45 a.m. Tuesday on southbound I-85 near Redwood Road. A second tractor-trailer hit the lumber in the roadway, and two other vehicles wrecked in the process. No injuries were reported.

Crews moved the lumber to the median of the roadway, but still had to remove it. Officials kept the lane closed for the workers' safety until they had removed all the wood.

A second accident occurred in the southbound lanes in the traffic back-up related to the first accident.
