Highway 15-501 Widening Project Hits Snag

RALEIGH, N.C. — An accident has delayed the U.S. Highway 15-501 widening project from Chapel Hill to Pittsboro.

A contractor accidentally struck a bridge girder with a backhoe. Repairs could take up to seven months.

The project, which began in 2001, is already years behind schedule.

The original completion date was December 2003. Now, state Department of Transportation officials cannot say when the project will be finished.
